Carb question.
#11
I had an Edelbrock 1406 and it did the same thing. Coming off of the idle circuit and into the primary jet it would stumble and fall onto it's face if I gave it anything in between 1/4 and 3/4 throttle. I either had to mash it or feather it. Oddly enough this seemed to happen more so when it was cold than when it was warmed up. I say it's odd because the choke was adjusted perfectly. If I had kept the truck I would have put a TPI system on it and called it good. Instead I sold it to my brother and it's his bastard child to deal with now.

That's what I was thinking.

You need to do some tests to see where the problem is really coming from. Did you check for vacuum leaks?

Would vacuum leaks cause this problem? I bought a new carb and I'm going to put it on. When I used one of those carb calculator things it said the max carb I would need is like a 650. That was if I had a 100 per cent VE. I Know that isn't the case in my motor. I was thinking closer to maybe 90 percent. whatever I'm going to give this new carb a shot.

Vacuum leaks are very bad. They can cause all sorts of gremlins. PErsonally I think a 750 cfm carb would work fine. You have the cubes to use it. What carb did you buy? PErsonally I like demon carbs. Holly's carbs are typically good too. I don't care for edelbrock, carter, or any of thoes other similar types. Sure osme of them may get better mpg then a holley, but tuning them can be a pain in the ass.
